This is NOT tax advice. We are not tax people. We’re HR people. If you have questions about the taxes on your check, how much you should have deducted, and how to fill out your tax forms, you should consult a tax advisor or trusted family member / family friend. We cannot advise you.

This IS information on how to see what you have already elected, how to calculate what’s being deducted, how to find tax tables. For how to change your withholdings, check out the Paylocity help page here (note, do not try to do this on your phone, you should only do it on a laptop or desktop).

How can I see what I have elected to have deducted on my tax forms?

This is often the FIRST place you should start your quest in understanding your tax deductions on your check. If you think you’ve filled your tax forms out one way, and they were actually filled out another way, things are going to get VERY frustrating, VERY quickly. Trust us on this one.

📍PS - we recommend you do alllllll of this on a laptop or desktop and not on your phone. Also trust us on this one.

(1) To view your Federal Tax forms, log into Paylocity, and navigate to the Pay tab in your profile

(2) Once you’re on the Pay tab, click on Tax Setup

(3) Review your Federal Income Tax (FITW) —FITW stands for Federal Income Tax Withholding (because they need to be faaaaannncccyy)

Filing Status

Filing Status — This is the filing status that you chose when you filled out your W2 last. This code is the biggest determining factor in your federal tax withholding amount on your check.

Dependents

Dependents - this is the dollar amount you calculated when you filled out your W2 last. The instructions you followed were to multiply the number of qualifying children under the age of 17 by $2000, Multiply the number of other dependents by $500, and then add those two numbers together.
